Westgate, September 2013
The attack on the Westgate shopping center in Nairobi, Kenya on September 21st, 2014 by Islamist militants united Kenyans from different ethnic and religious groups in their grief.
Westgate was a favorite haunt of rich Kenyans and foreigners. Among those killed were President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nephew and members of the country’s Asian community – both Muslim and Hindu.
Somali Islamist group al-Shabab says it carried out the attack, which killed at least 67 people.
