Refugees in Rwanda, May 2015
In May 2015 thousands of people arrived in Bugesera, Rwanda, from Burundi to escape escalating pre-election violence in Burundi after President Pierre Nkurunziza declared his intention to stand for a third term. Of more than 40,000 Burundians who fled during this time more than half crossed into Rwanda.

- Jeanne, Félicite and Brigitte are have their photograph taken in the tent they are temporarily living in at Bugeshera Reception Centre, having fled Burundi because of ongoing political violence, in Bugashera Rwanda on 4th May, 2015. They are among the 25,000 Burundian refugees who have fled pre-election violence in Burundi and have arrived in Rwanda over the past few weeks. They were neighbours in Bujumbura and decided to flee together with their 10 children last Thursday (26 April).
They had good jobs in Bujumbura. Felicite was in a medical school to become a para medical staff and was doing an internship at the hospital. Brigitte was a small vendor at the market and Jeanne had a restaurant. When they saw that the situation was getting worse they realized that their only choice to stay safe and to protect their children was to leave everything behind and to flee.
