Ambulance Rescues in Nairobi

While in Nairobi, sorting out my next assignments, I have been working on a project with Nairobi's ambulance crews.
There are only 5 ambulances in Nairobi, for use by the public and these are funded by St John's Ambulance and Johanniter International.
The traffic in Nairobi is a huge hinderance to their work, many drivers do not understand the urgency of an ambulance, or what to do when they hear a siren.
The areas the ambulances are called to are often extremely dangerous, being in some of the most run down areas of town.
In these places I am very aware of how little of Nairobi I really know, or that such urban poverty existed here. I have realised that I have never done an assignment in "urban Africa". The majority of NGO's who I work for concentrate on assistance to rural districts, yet 2006 marked the year that the majority of the worlds population migrated from being rural to urban.
